Lauzon Mixed Martial Arts – Jiu-Jitsu near Bridgewater, MA
Lauzon MMA is Joe Lauzon’s gym. For Bridgewater, that means the Raynham mat on Route 44: 8.6 miles and about 14 minutes from Bridgewater center, out along Route 104 and one exit down Route 24. Bridgewater is one of twelve towns that train out of Raynham, and it is one of the closest.
Kids’ jiu-jitsu from three years old, adult jiu-jitsu, kickboxing and no-gi grappling all run out of that one building, mornings, evenings and weekends. This page is the straight version of what is there, how long the drive actually takes, and what happens when you call.
How far is Lauzon MMA from Bridgewater?
From Bridgewater center it is 8.6 miles and about 14 minutes: Route 104 east out of the center, then Route 24 south for four miles, off at Route 44. From the Bridgewater State end of town it is 9.5 miles and roughly 17 minutes. The other gym, in Canton, is 18.1 miles and about 30 minutes from the same starting point, so for nearly everyone in Bridgewater the Raynham gym is the one.
Those numbers are measured on the actual roads in free-flowing traffic. A weekday at 5:30 PM on Route 24 is slower than that, which is worth knowing if you are aiming at the 6:00 PM class.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for every age from three up
Jiu-jitsu at Lauzon MMA is split by age, so nobody is training against a body they cannot handle safely yet. Every class is taught by a coach from the gym’s own team on the same mats the adult classes use.
Tiny Ninjas: ages 3 to 5
Monday to Thursday at 4:45 PM and again at 5:30 PM, plus Sunday at 9:00 AM. Short, game-based classes that build coordination and confidence before any real technique lands.
Vipers: ages 6 to 9
Monday to Thursday at 5:00 PM, Friday at 5:30 PM in the combined Vipers and Cobras class, and Sunday at 9:30 AM. This is where the basics of position and control take hold.
Cobras: ages 10 to 13
Monday to Thursday at 6:00 PM, and the same Friday 5:30 PM combined class. Older kids train technique properly here, and the same class feeds the adult programme.
Adult jiu-jitsu
Monday and Wednesday at 6:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 PM, Saturday at 10:00 AM and Sunday at 10:00 AM. Beginners are in the room with everyone else and are paired with someone who can look after them.
Women’s jiu-jitsu
Sunday at 9:00 AM, taught by Tracey Balaschi. It is the one class on the timetable that is only for women, and it runs every Sunday morning.
Kickboxing
If you have never thrown a punch, Kickboxing Basics is the entry point: Monday and Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Once you have the mechanics, the regular kickboxing classes run Tuesday and Thursday at 11:00 AM and Friday at 5:00 PM, with Wednesday 7:00 PM for drilling and Thursday 7:00 PM for sparring.
Kids’ kickboxing is separate from kids’ jiu-jitsu and runs Saturday mornings: 9:15 AM for ages 6 to 9, and 10:00 AM for ages 10 to 13.
No-gi grappling and open mat
No-gi runs early: 6:00 AM on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10:00 AM Monday through Friday. In the evenings it is Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 PM and Tuesday at 6:00 PM. The longer marathon sessions are Thursday 6:00 PM, Friday 6:00 PM and Saturday 9:00 AM, and Open Mat runs Sunday at 8:00 AM and again at 11:00 AM.
What is actually different about this gym
Joe Lauzon is on the mat
Joe fought 26 times in the UFC and he still teaches here: the 10:00 AM no-gi classes Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Vipers on Monday and Wednesday, and the Saturday noon MMA ground session. A lot of gyms put a famous name on the sign. This one is in the room on a Wednesday morning.
The kids’ programme goes all the way up
Because Tiny Ninjas, Vipers and Cobras each have their own classes, a child who starts at four is still in a room built for their age at twelve. You are not moving a ten-year-old into an adult class to keep them training.
Morning classes, which the Canton gym does not run
The 6:00 AM no-gi classes and the 10:00 AM slots exist at Raynham only. If your evenings belong to work or to kids, that is the difference between training and not training.
It is a members-only gym
Lauzon MMA is not a drop-in fitness chain and there is no turnstile. Everyone comes in through a free intro appointment, which is why the classes are full of people who know each other.
How to start: a free intro appointment
The way in is a free intro appointment. Call the gym on 508-219-0418, say which age group it is for and roughly when you can train, and the team will book you a time and tell you what to bring. You do not need experience, and you do not need to buy anything first.
