Father’s Day is always one of our favorite days at Lauzon MMA.
Every year, we like to do something a little different to get dads and kids on the mat together. Not a serious training session. Not a hard workout. Not a normal class.
Just a fun chance for dads to jump in, play some games, learn a little Jiu-Jitsu, and spend time with their kids in a way they probably don’t get to do every day.
This year, our Father’s Day Seminar will be Sunday, June 21 at 11:00 AM, right after the 10 AM BJJ class.
It will be a no-gi session, so if you are already training in the 10 AM BJJ class, you can just take the gi top off and stay on the mat. If you are brand new, you do not need anything special. Just wear comfortable clothes you can move around in.
Why We Love Getting Dads on the Mat
Kids do better when they have strong role models.
They need people they can look up to. They need people who show them how to handle hard things, how to stay calm, how to keep trying, and how to have fun while learning something new.
Jiu-Jitsu is perfect for that.
When kids see their dad, or another strong role model, step on the mat and try something new, it sends a message that matters.
It tells them:
Trying hard things is normal.
Being a beginner is okay.
You don’t have to be perfect to participate.
Learning is something we do our whole lives.
That is one of the best parts about training Jiu-Jitsu as a family. Kids don’t just hear adults talk about discipline, effort, and humility. They get to see it in real time.
Dad gets stuck. Dad laughs. Dad tries again. Dad learns. Dad gets better.
That sticks with kids.
We Think More Dads Should Be Training Jiu-Jitsu
We say this all the time, but we really believe it.
More dads should be training Jiu-Jitsu.
Not because everyone needs to become a competitor. Not because everyone needs to be the toughest guy in the room. Most people are not looking for that.
Dads should train because Jiu-Jitsu gives you something that is hard to find anywhere else.
You get exercise. You learn real skills. You build confidence. You get time around other good people. You get challenged in a healthy way. You get to work through problems with your body and your mind.
And maybe most importantly, your kids get to see you doing it.
They get to see you show up.
They get to see you work.
They get to see you laugh when something goes wrong.
They get to see you keep going.
That is a powerful example.
What to Expect at the Father’s Day Seminar

This seminar will be very beginner-friendly.
We are not trying to smash everyone into the ground or teach a super complicated technique. This will be a short, fun Jiu-Jitsu experience with a lot of games mixed in.
We will do some simple movement, some basic grappling ideas, and some dads vs. kids style games.
The goal is simple: get everyone moving, laughing, and having fun together.
If dad already trains, great.
If dad has never trained before, even better.
If the kids train with us and dad has never stepped on the mat, this is a perfect chance for him to jump in and see what the kids are always talking about.
Jiu-Jitsu Is Better When Families Are Involved
One of the best things about our Academy is the family side of it.
We have kids who train. We have parents who train. We have siblings who train. We have dads who started because their kids trained, and kids who got more excited because they saw their parents getting involved too.
That shared experience matters.
It gives families something to talk about outside of class. It gives kids a chance to teach dad something. It gives dad a chance to be a beginner in front of his child. It creates a different kind of connection.
Most kids love seeing their parents get involved.
They love showing what they know.
They love when dad gets tired.
They really love when they get to win a game against dad.
That is what this day is about.
BBQ After Training
After we finish up on the mats, we will head outside, fire up the grill, and hang out.
We will have burgers, hot dogs, and food for everyone. If you want to bring something, you are welcome to, but you do not have to. We will have the basics covered.
Tracey and Katie will be helping run the grill, and we will keep it casual like we always do.
Train a little. Eat a little. Hang out. Enjoy Father’s Day with the Lauzon MMA crew.
