Kids News
This week, our Vipers and Cobras are diving into two classic (and very effective) techniques: the Cross Collar Choke from guard and the Loop Choke. Beyond just learning the moves, we’re focusing on when to use them, how to stay calm under pressure, and how to recognize openings instead of forcing things. It’s great problem-solving work and something the kids really start to feel click at this stage.
Our Lauzon Life Lesson of the Week is Respect Yourself & Know Your Impact.
We talk a lot about treating teammates with respect, but this week we’re zooming out a bit — learning to respect yourself, make good choices, and understand how your actions affect the people around you. A simple way we explain it to the kids: treat yourself like your own best friend. The way you talk to yourself and carry yourself matters.

We’re also excited for our Valentine’s Day Parents Night Out on Friday, February 13, 2026. These nights are always a hit — the kids get to hang out, train, and have fun with their friends, while parents get a well-earned night off. Whether it’s dinner, a movie, or just a quiet house, everyone wins. Registration details are available now, so don’t wait too long.
We’ll be sending coaches to support our athletes at NAGA Hanover on February 28th!
To help everyone feel prepared and confident, we’re bringing back our Sunday Kids Comp Class leading up to the event. This class is free for members and is a great way to sharpen skills and get extra mat time before competition. Check out this blog post for more details!
Our newest Tiny Ninjas Block is officially underway and off to a great start. Classes are running Fridays at 5pm and Sundays at 9am, and we’re loving the energy in the room. This is a perfect entry point for our youngest athletes, and we’re happy to welcome new faces — or help current families shift schedules if that works better. Just check in with the front desk and we’ll get you sorted.

Big fight night coming up. Alyssa Tortora, Jay Perrin, and Ian Barrett will all be competing at Cage Titans at MGM Boston on February 21st. These athletes have been putting in serious work, and it’s always awesome to see the Academy show up and support. If you’re interested in tickets, reach out to any of them directly — they receive commission on ticket sales and can answer any questions.
Huge congratulations to all of our teammates who competed at NAGA yesterday. We’re incredibly proud of the effort, preparation, and commitment you put on display.

We’re also bringing back one of our favorite traditions: the Annual Valentine’s Day Seminar on Sunday, February 15th at 11am, right after Joe Pomfret’s 10am BJJ class. This seminar is all about connection — bringing a partner, friend, or family member to train together, laugh a little, and share a unique experience on the mats. Details are up on our Facebook event page, and everyone is welcome.
Last thing — new sweatshirts have arrived and they’re already moving fast. We only brought in a limited run, so if you’ve been eyeing one, stop by the front desk sooner rather than later. Once they’re gone, they’re gone.
See you on the mats this week 👊
